Charles Bradley Passes Away At 68

Charles Edward Bradley, an american funk, soul, and R&B singer/songwriter, passed away at the young age of 68 years old today due to a long battle with stomach cancer. Charles was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida and witnessed his first live performance in 1962 at the Apollo Theater of James Brown.

This alone, inspired him to work as hard as he could to have atleast half the talent Brown put onto the stage. If you have ever seen Charles Bradley live, you can clearly see a direct James Brown influence. Now, Charles Bradley has been an extremely active performer when it comes to releasing music as well as live shows for the last 42 years. Charles was represented by Daptone Records and never took a break in making beautiful music for himself and most importantly the people around him.

Over the years, Bradley developed a notorious nickname as the screaming eagle of soul. To be in the presence of Charles Bradley was like experiencing a piece of history, tapping into your spirituality, and feeling unconditional love all at the same. This man put in everything he had, day in and day out, to inspire and create a spark in others which he has successfully done by touching the lives of thousands of people around the world.

When he was diagnosed just last year with a tumor found in his stomach he proudly stated, “I will fight through this like I’ve fought through the many other obstacles in my life". After receiving immense treatment, the cancer unfortunately spread leading to his liver forcing his recent show cancellations.
